The Joint Board for Bishop Transition in the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia is pleased to announce that, after receiving the recommendations of the Bishop Search Committee, we have approved a preliminary slate of nominees for the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Olympia.
- The Reverend Phil LaBelle
- The Reverend Doctor Hillary D. Raining
- The Venerable Jordan Haynie Ware
- The Reverend Kate E. Wesch
More information about each nominee can be found on our Bishop Transition website here.
A ten-day petition period begins, effective today, during which anyone who meets the canonical requirements may petition to be added to the slate of nominees. The deadline to submit nomination materials is March 10 at 6:00 pm PDT. All requirements and necessary rules for nomination may be found on the Bishop Transition website here.
This announcement of our preliminary slate of nominees is a key milestone in our journey through the Bishop Search and Transition process. We are deeply grateful to the Bishop Search Committee for the vigorous work they have undertaken since their formation in April of 2023.
Once the petition process has been completed, the Joint Board for Bishop Transition will announce the final slate of nominees to the Diocese. Members of the Diocese will have the opportunity to meet the nominees in a series of Meet & Greets that will take place in our churches across Western Washington during the week of April 29. Information about the times and locations of the Meet & Greets will be made available soon. A special Electing Convention will take place on May 18 at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle, where, after obtaining consent from the wider Episcopal Church, they will become the Ninth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia. A service of ordination and consecration will take place at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue on September 14, 2024.
Please keep the nominees, the transition committee, and the people of the Diocese of Olympia in your prayers as we move into this next phase in the discernment of our ninth bishop.
